Established in 1927 to protect and care for animals across the Niagara Peninsula, the Lincoln County Humane Society, has saved countless animals and has become an essential part of the Niagara community over the years. In 2023, during their 97th year, the Lincoln County Humane Society decided to formally change their name to the Humane Society of Greater Niagara. The new name better reflects the areas they serve across the region.

In every city and town that they service, St. Catharines, Thorold, Grimsby, Niagara-on-the-Lake, and Fort Erie, the Humane Society of Greater Niagara remains dedicated to animal welfare and cultivating a compassionate community spirit.

Despite having a new name, the HSGN is dedicated to their longstanding mission:
To be leaders in animal welfare, fostering a community where every life is valued and cherished.

Challenges:

The Humane Society of Greater Niagara faced a complex challenge with the name change. They needed to ensure a seamless transition while maintaining the trust and recognition they had built over nearly a century. This rebranding wasn't just about a name change; it required a comprehensive overhaul, including a new website and an updated visual identity.

The Humane Society called on us to help them navigate this transformation. Our main challenge was to honour the historic reputation of the Lincoln County Humane Society while modernizing the brand. We worked closely with the HSGN team to develop a strategy that balanced these needs.

Our Approach

To achieve these goals, we started with branding, and a new logo was first on the agenda. Our design team selected specific colors and imagery to convey comfort, care, and compassion. Preserving the historic reputation of the Lincoln County Humane Society was paramount, so our branding process focused on maintaining this legacy.

We then moved to website design. We designed the new website to be modern, clean, and user-friendly. Features such as step-by-step instructions for adoption, volunteering, and simplified donation guides were included to enhance usability and provide a positive experience for visitors.

The Goals

The primary goals for the Humane Society's rebrand were:

01

Modernize the Brand and Digital Presence: Update the brand by rolling out a new name, new branding, and a new website that modernizes and enhances HSGN’s digital presence.

02

Encapsulate Services and Service Area: Clearly communicate the expanded service area and range of services they provide.

03

Maintain Reputation: Preserve the goodwill and trust that Lincoln County Humane Society had built over the years.

04

Spread Compassion and Care: Reinforce the organization's commitment to animal welfare and a compassionate community.

What They Said

Working with Symetric has been a truly wonderful experience. From the very beginning, they’ve been deeply invested in our success and a tremendous asset to our daily operations. They are innovative and passionate, qualities that shine through in everything they do. In 2023, we underwent a major transformation, rebranding and changing a name that had been part of our community since 1927. Symetric made this transition seamless for both us and our community. They’ve continuously listened to our needs, hopes, and dreams and made our mission their own. The entire Symetric team is incredibly supportive and helpful, and we’re proud to consider them part of our team. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Symetric as we carry on our life-saving work in the Niagara Region.
