Everyone likes doing business with companies who are on the move. There’s a perception of success with organizations that are growing, changing or standing out. The problem lies not in whether we want success but more in are we willing to actually change. Often we get so close to our business without actually looking at the little things that really fuel our success. I call these areas the “Moxie Spots” You actually have to have guts and drive to dive into some of these areas and force yourself to make a change. These areas are usually overlooked and their potential success is almost always undervalued.
As you get ready for the New Year take time for the Moxie Spots you may be surprised by the return they can bring. Here are a few spots we have found over the years that have a great potential for return.
Unless your logo is absolutely terrible, I don’t recommend a complete new look. However you make want to play around with a few characteristic of your logo. Possibly changing a color, adding a accent or replacing a font style can help bring your company a whole new image while still maintaining your branding. Nike does a great job of this, by always keeping the swoosh but changing the colour of the icon to match different styles.
Websites should be living breathing species that are always changing and updating. Looking over your products, services and content is something that should be done frequently. The most valuable area that is usually overlooked is the “call to action”. Adding a button, form or some type of call to action right on these pages has huge benefits for gaining leads. In a physical retail environment it would be the same as salesperson describing the product but never asking for the sale. Take time and ask for the sale on your website.
We all have business cards and at some point they were brand-new and awesome looking. Over the years as we run out we stop the design process and just subside to the reorder process. In many cases our cards are still the force for making that first impression. However that first impression has become stale over the last 5 years and so has our image now. Take some time and get a designer to develop a new look for your card, you might be surprised with how they begin to gain compliments again.
If you’re a social media addict or real estate agent you probably understand that value of a stunning profile image. Well that is the case this image can stay a lot about you. So take a second and ask yourself how old your mug shot is? Do we spot a hairstyle that is a few years old, or possibly you have been wearing the same suit for the last 5 years? Make that photo modern and update those profiles.
When you first started you developed processes or methods for doing tasks or procedures. They worked and got the job done and ultimately accomplished what they were set out to do. Now that years have passed, technology has changed; you may want to look at some of these areas. Driving to meetings may have been the way to do business, but online Skype meetings may save you a lot in extra expenses. Maybe sending faxes is how you gain approvals, maybe scanning and email or online submissions may be the new method. Take time to look at these processes and see if meeting just your needs and possibly not your clients.
As you begin to look at these areas it becomes easier to see other potential areas for change. Let this year’s resolution be a MOXIE year and find the hidden spots in your company.
